Nick (and I find this such fakery) just happened to have the two keys that fit perfectly together. And naturally, it appears his were the keys that pointed to where the shard was. So when the other three keys were found, the gang was automatically able to piece them together and make sense out of them.
But what if the royals had some odd keys that didn't fit together? There's really no way they could judge if their keys were in fact counterfeit or the key they happened to acquire was the fake. I watched the part of the episode where Monroe "guessed" at where the shard was. Yeah, okay, (eyeroll).
The best way to frustrate a cyberbully is to ignore him.
