Nick wants his son back, it's enough reason to drive Nick's actions. We don't need the children to have a plot, apart from Diana. She isn't a normal child and has killed before Kelly seems like a normal baby so can't do anything on his own. Children tend to be used as props more than anything which is why showrunners are often hesitant to give their main players babies because it ties them down and they have the ability to change the characters motivations or limit the characters because suddenly they must think about the little ones first before thinking of themselves. Kelly is a prop, more so now that we are in the final stretch. Diana has potential to being a player in whatever game is between Sean and Nick but I doubt the writers will do any serious damage with her, she's a mommys girl at the moment or something close to it, that is if Adalind can keep her in check..
