If Nick had never become a grimm, him and Juliette would have lived a happy life together but that all went to hell in a basket, 1 - because he did become a grimm, opening up her world to something she wasn't fully ready to accept and 2 - Adalind happened to them both and there was no way of undoing that. When Juliette got her powers, I thought she and Nick would finally be on the same page but the writers screwed them up royally for the hundredth time with Nick's initial rejection, something that was to be expected. The problem is that the writers didn't give them both time to adjust to their new reality and work through the changes as a couple because Juliette went on a crazy binge that ended with Kelly dead. That was bad writing from beginning to end. They had a perfectly good opportunity to write them overcoming this new problem together but like many times before, they chose to split them up like the memory loss some seasons back.
Then they decided to toy with Nick and Adalind as a couple. Something I personally didn't see coming. To some this may seem like placeholding and maybe that was the intention but I don't know. They have a horrible history but the writers, against all logic put them together because of Kelly. An outdated concept to some, two people forced together to raise their child. I don't think it will be so easy to do away with these two now that they crossed the line. Nick's reaction to her powers returning is what he should have done for Juliette. He was angry but he was patient and eventually somewhat accepting of her, powers and all. Nick has been acting weird around Adalind this whole season, being more closed off than usual but he's a grown man. If he didn't want to be with Adalind sexually, he should have said so and kept their relationship platonic, focused on being a father, Adalind is a big girl, she would have gotten the gist of their situation and focused instead on gaining her independence and being a good mother for Kelly and eventually they would have had to work out a custody agreement for both sides. The writers can't even write these two together and I like them better.
Edit: Another point is that the writers used Nick's latent childhood trauma of being separated from his mother and Adalind's fear of losing yet another baby and used their attraction to one another to justify keeping them together when it was not necessary. They used Renard and BC as external conflicts when they already had plenty internally. Whatever S6 holds it will be interesting to see how they resolve these two.
