i never had an idea but your assessment makes absolute sense cos he had to kill meisner and meisner are pretty close to him. Why didn't adalind make much of an effort to stop diana from killing rachel. she asked renard "what kind of mother does he think she is", but she could not stop diana from killing rachel. did she on some level wanted rachel dead??

I also believe the not to subtle threat Conrad told him, after Renard was force to kill Miesner to take him out of his misery.."you have a compassion side that will be a danger to their cause"....
