I think back in the day, the villagers would sort of hound a bear in the direction of a bear trap so that the bear would fall into the bear trap. Although it doesn't make a whole bunch of sense for bears to do this to villagers I thought maybe the bears thought it to be poetic justice. Anyway, its a tradition so it doesn't have to make sense.
Although I think the use of real animals might have been an idea that writers gave up on because it was too expensive or took too much time, it can be explained in the weson world as a rarely seen 3rd level of woge. The third level is only achieved during extreme emotional distress, like when a momma bear sees her cubs in danger.
I'm not sure the writers worked out the physics part of ripping a guy's arm off but Monroe is out of practice being a blurbed. We have rarely seen him fight in blutbad form. But when we have, he has shown incredible strength.
I liked the episode a lot. I really liked how they incorporated the fairy tale into the story - they don't do that much anymore and I liked it so that makes this episode a little special. Hey, did you notice that Goldilocks only got to sleep in two beds - not three. Thats because in the 21st century Momma and Poppa bear don't have separate beds.
However, i do agree with HJ on a few points but mostly that Gilda/Goldy was hot.
BTW, I got a couple of these ideas after listening the the Grimm Podcast on this episode.
