A heavily pregnant Adalind did't have a lot of prospects. Going with Nick was her best option. He asked her to move into the loft with him and she went because she really didn't have a lot choices at that stage. However, that doesn't mean she would always be dependent on him. Months after Kelly's birth she wanted to go back to work and she did. She chose to stay with Nick, not out of obligation where he was her provider or even protector since most of her enemies were either neutered (Juliette the hexenbiest) or they'd moved on from their Diana obsession. She'd basically gained her independence back at her cushy job until BC came knocking. Without that, she could have left the loft permanently had that been what she wanted. Both Nick and Adalind made choices that kept them together, beyond what one could ever expect for two people not in an relationship. Ultimately, one cannot honestly argue Adalind's dependency on Nick with arguing his dependency on her as well. They are both very co-dependent during that first half of S5.
