I want to like this show, I really do, but they are not making it easy. The first two episodes of the year focusing on Bortus - to me an uninteresting character I don't care about, with topics of ritual peeing and holodeck porn addiction. When I saw my wife laughing at things I knew I was in trouble, our senses of humour rarely match up on tv shows.

I'm starved for scifi on tv these days so I'll keep watching. And hoping it gets better.

I have been binge watching Deep Space 9, a show I originally detested and would not watch when it was on the air because I didn't like any of the characters. I find the show tolerable now, but Major Kira was and still is an annoying character in my opinion. Oddly enough, I really liked the Ferengi because they always added a real comic touch to the show. But even at that, it was for the most part, sobering.

Some of the jokes fall flat in The Orville, but I have to say that overall, I like the show. It's a nice change of pace to watch a sci-fi series that is fun and generally ends on an upbeat note. I am not a fan of toilet humor, but I found myself laughing at some of the pee jokes. A peeing ritual is a strange thing, but then look at all of the goofy things humans have a special day for, for instance, national toilet day.

This series continues to surprise me with the topics they address, like holodeck porn and unruly teenagers. I tend to think of these futuristic humans and aliens as having most of the personal issues under control so it's interesting to see how the future set deals with issues that are so common to us.

I am also starved for good sci-fi, and I won't pay for the new Star Trek series, so I'll keep watching.
