He never once indicated that he had to be a grimm or that he was compelled to be a grimm. He said he liked being a grimm. I'm assuming that if he didn't like being a grimm, he would have been content to live out his life as the companion to Juliette.
Nick was still involved with the wesen world after losing his Grimm. His life didn't get any easier or safer because he lost his sight. This was explicitly shown in Cry Luison when Bud came to get Trubel's help in dealing with a wesen who going to come after Nick precisely because he wasn't a Grimm anymore. As a cop, he still would've felt compelled to help Monroe and Rosalee out with the Wesenrein.
Nick and his friends were also targeted in Blind Love because of Nick doing his job as cop several years earlier. It had nothing to do with him being a Grimm and they only survived because Rosalee was pregnant at the time.
Even earlier in season 1, Juliette asked Nick to get involved with a couple that screamed domestic abuse without knowing he was a Grimm and the couple were wesen on a romantic getaway.
Nick was a detective. He would've still got involved in wesen case since Portland was crawling with them and he still would've been in danger. We've seen some law enforcement officials pay the price for not being familiar with that world. It wasn't going away whether Nick was a Grimm or not.

She also seemed more than capable of taking care of herself. I have yet to see any type of proof that if a person sees wesen and doesn't become a grimm, he/she will end up some depressed, messed up freak.
Trubel didn't have a compulsion. She just felt better about herself once she learned she wasn't crazy and found out why she was being attacked. Trubel was definitely capable of taking care of herself. She joined HW without any input from Nick and Juliette. You may want to say that HW, specifically Chavez and Meisner, pushed her harder but that was separate from them.
