The only thing that saved Nick, Hank and Wu was when Nick took on Renard's form, abdicated the mayorship, and told the press that Nick and company were on an undercover mission. So, yes, they had Renard in a corner as far as making it appear *they* never really lost their jobs in the first place while at the same time removing him from office. I'm not arguing that. But Renard later told Nick and Hank and Wu that he was in charge of the precinct and if any of them got out of line again, they were out of there. Nick smarted off, but he never once threatened Renard with any type of exposure, should Renard attempt to remove any of them from their jobs.
It's one thing to get their jobs back by way of subterfuge. It's quite another to waltz in carelessly and take up working for the same man who hates his guts.
So what did the series do? Rather than putting into reality the questions of why Nick would work for a man he hated and why Renard didn't use his hatred and make the job hell for Nick and company, the series decided to take the terrible move and force him in to goodguyship. Too bad really.

The best way to frustrate a cyberbully is to ignore him.
