The possibility of the miracle stick being a splinter of the original cross where Christ was crucified is one of the most persistent theories about its origin.
Would the showrunners take a risk by revealing this to be true? Speaking as a Presbyterian Christian, I wouldn't be offended. In fact, it'd be almost uplifting to see bona fide evidence of Christ's reality on a series that features morally compromised characters and gray areas on a weekly basis.
There seems to be a trend nowadays to avoid holy items and their religious implications, for fear of rankling believers, or atheists, or both. Unless you're Steven Spielberg, you don't get to go anywhere NEAR the Ark of the Covenant or the Holy Grail...which is a criminal waste of great story material, in my opinion. Considering how much importance has been attached to the miracle stick throughout the entire show, reducing the miracle stick to some vague, inoffensive, ineffectual McGuffin in S6 would be a major disappointment.
