Loki is a bit of a dick, but I've always felt there was hope for redemption and perhaps in Thor 3 we can explore this path given where Loki is currently situated after Thor 2. Perhaps as you say he can become perhaps that chaotic neutral character to borrow D & D parlance and help the 'teams' when they finally battle Thanos and the infinity gauntlet
