Did I just see HBO greenlight a series from David Benioff and D.B. Weiss about slavery being legal in modern times? OH boy! That's one I'll definitely be skipping. I probably would've given the series a chance if it wasn't written by those two. They're already horrible at tackling touchy subjects on Game of Thrones. I don't expect this to be any better but I'm sure there will be people who will defend them without actually understanding or caring what the complaints are about. It's already happened with GoT.
I know people will tell me to wait for the series before stating the above but I've seen enough from them. This is in combination with me thinking they're mediocre writers even without the controversial topics they portray so badly.
Modern day slavery? We already have that in the form of the following and it's not entertainment:
Domestic Servitude.
Sex Trafficking.
Forced Labor.
Bonded Labor.
Child Labor.
Forced Marriage.
It's obviously not a good idea if their writing is anything to go by. It's a hot topic that they shouldn't ever touch.
