I really liked this episode. We had the the first return of an old threat and Skye is getting interesting... Also Coulson doesn't seem to need sleep, hmmm. Anyione else have thoughts on this?

Yes, this show keeps improving. The villains are finally making a bigger impact. I'm glad there's not going to just be a generic "baddie of the week" but also a more complex storyline.
My only complaint with this episode is that the show continues its trend of killing off characters of color ... or they also end up being bad guys. Which is extraordinarily uncool, even if it is unintentional. Still cringe-inducing. From the last episode's discussion, I really do think that Coulson was Spoiler : "I can feed the caterpillar, I can whisper through the chrysalis, but what hatches follows its own nature and is beyond me."

I really enjoyed this episode, and I just love the witty comedic nature of Whedon's shows. I don't know if others will agree with me, but watching both Grimm and SHIELD made me realize how the show Angel (created by Greenwalt and Whedon) combines both creative/writing styles.
I felt bad for Scorch though because of how in the beginning of the episode, it seemed like he genuinely wanted to be a force of good, but then was turned evil. Interesting about Coulson being an Android/Cyborg. Since Coulson's played by a different actor, I can see them using like you said an Artifact or some sort of brain transplant / transfer of consciousness. Also if there's one thing I've learned from watching Whedon shows is that he likes to bring back characters from the dead.

I loved Angel... maybe even more than Buffy. as for scorch. I think he was doped with Extremis yes. But he gave himself a does after the good guys tried to save him so was he turned evil, or did he like being that was too much.
As for the characters being killed off, they've been killing everyone off who's not part of the team. The only one they left alive so far the woman in the flower dress.

Though I like darker themes in shows, SHIELD is shaping up to be this lighter change of pace that I like. (TV has been so gritty lately and that's easy to do badly.) SHIELD is improving each episode, and a big part of that is the show getting into its own mythology. You're right; both shows really do showcase just how much of a composite creation Angel really was. Grimm has banter but it also is slightly darker, slicker, whilst SHIELD feels more like delightfully old-school fun. Alas, poor Scorch. His name was too uncool for him to live. *sad trombone* I guess it's realistic that the people who want to be superheroes would be the least qualified for it ... but I was hoping the underdog would get ahead in this case. Yeah, right now the Android/Cyborg thing is just a fan theory, but I'm interested to see if it pans out. Superheroes exist and so do fantastic items, so it's not too far of a stretch. Lol, yes, Whedon will kill people off and then revive them. Frequently. Par for course when talking about superheroes though. I have a feeling that things on the show might play fast and loose with the mythos as time goes on. TV shows tend to have more life than movies, too. Once the films are done with, strange things will probably happen. Less of a rein on writers.

I am too old for shield. I read Iron Man back when he was confined to a wheel chair. So I'm ignorant of the SHIELD setting and don't really care. So far I like the show and I like that they seem to have left some room in for background, and character development - both kinds of character development - where we learn more about the characters and the characters themselves evolve. Just like here at G.R.I.M.M.
