I'm fashionably late to the party.
First of all: PHEW!! The Captain's alive! And I'm hardcore crushing on his mom which is kind of weird because I'm also hardcore crushing on him. That's a first. But seriously, have I missed something in former episodes (or even that episode) that explained why she looks like she was already pregnant with him when she was born? Is it because she's a Hexenbiest? Because I remember Adalind's mom not exactly looking ancient but definitely showing that she was about twice Adalind's age.
Second, I loved the episode but was a bit disappointed, too. Grimm actually ON Halloween and no special Halloween episode? Laaame! I know it was only the second episode of the season and people wanted to see what happened to the Captain and the whole Wu / Trubel thing and all. But still! It was ON Halloween, guys! It would have been so awesome to have another creepy story like the Lady of the Lake one.
Also, Trubel is still annoying me a bit. As I can see we all agree that Adalind isn't the brightest pea and all but Trubel isn't so smart, either. I'm not a trained FBI agent and even I can see that she looks guilty. Actually, she looks guilty of crimes she hasn't even committed. With her bad puppy-look I'd blame anything from the dinosaurs going extinct and world hunger on her! And then everyone acts like it is SUCH a surprise that the FBI is onto her. Uhm...no!
As for the discussion of why her memories drove the Gedächtnisesser insane...I'm leaning towards the theory that it was because he got to see all those Wesen at once and from her point of view. Plus, just because he's a Wesen too doesn't mean the scarier ones won't give him the creeps. What makes this theory a bit unlikely is that sure, he saw a lot of crazy stuff in Trubel's memories but she isn't the only one who's had a tough youth and seen a lot of bad, scary or traumatizing things. I'd say it's unlikely he'd never encountered someone with equally traumatic memories before, even when they had nothing to do with Wesen. Hmmm...
