He has to hope they'll mobilise local wesen against Black Claw's tactics of intimidation and bullying.Do you mean Renard agreed to run for mayor because of perceived threats if he refused BC’s offer or it ended up that way after he was in too deep?
I don't believe Nick trusts Renard or needs to. I do agree Renard and his family would have been killed had he said no to being Mayor.
Renard, being the master manipulator he is, would have at least suspected BC had ulterior motives in getting Diana. Surely he didn’t believe they wanted Diana just for his benefit and to benefit his campaign for mayor. Renard is smarter than that. Renard believed he could control the people & situation the way he always has. Only this time he was wrong. I also think Renard wanted access to Diana/her power and since Meisner wasn't going to provide him Diana's location, BC was a way to circumvent Meisner and the Resistance. I don't think Renard would have ever told Adalind Meisner was on the helicopter or that the Resistance had Diana if BC hadn't insisted Adalind be a part of his bid for mayor. If he'd been able to, he would have gotten Diana and kept it from Adalind as long as possible.
