I don't mean the five minute scene where he looks at her dress and remembers her. I don't see that as grieving. I mean real grieving and not only for his live in partner as a human, but even after she was turned into a hexenbiest.Hi Irukandji,
I don't like Nick, but having him experience some real grief for Juliette might go a ways in changing my attitude toward him.
I agree, Nick has not shown much grief for Juliette (or for his Mother). In 4.22 "Cry Havoc" it could be "grief" that cause Juliette to say:
Quote:Juliette: [Gasping] Do it, Nick. Kill me. Just do it. Do it.Is it possible that as Nick is strangling her she prefers death to a future as a hexenbiest. Is part of her "grief" that she had destroyed her loving relationship with Nick?
Nick releases her and she proceeds to violently beat him. He seems unwilling or unable to defend himself. Here is the script:
Quote:Juliette: [Gasping] Do it, Nick. Kill me. Just do it. Do it. [She gasps more. Nick lets go of her and she catches her breath] You can't put me out of your misery, huh? I hope you're not going to tell me you're still in love with me.I highlighted Nick's final words to her as he lays on the floor at Juliette's feet near his Mother's head.
Nick: Get out.
Juliette: After everything I've done for you, you think that's how we're gonna end it? You should have killed me when you had the chance. [She woges and pushes Nick across the room into a wall. Then, she throws him part way through a window, drags him back, and smacks him across his face. She retracts and looks at Nick on the ground]
Nick: I'm done fighting, Juliette.
Juliette: Maybe I still love you. Maybe that's something that just never goes away.
Nick: I'm done.
Juliette: I know. I wish I was. Goodbye, Nick. [She woges and raises her arm]
Trubel: [From behind] Goodbye, Juliette.
[Juliette turns around, and Trubel shoots her twice with the Doppelarmbrust. Juliette retracts and turns back towards Nick]
Nick: No. [He catches Juliette as she falls to the ground] No. No, Juliette.
Juliette: [Gasping, moaning] Nick.
Nick: Juliette, no.
[Blood starts coming out of the side of Juliette's mouth, and she dies]
Nick: [Crying] No, no. [He looks up at Trubel, and she looks at the ground, sad]
IMO, Nick's fighting prowess was superior to Hexenette's and he could have subdued her. Instead, he is so overcome with grief that he would rather die than "fight" her.
After 4.22, JHF shows no guilt, remorse, or grief. Nick experiences grief as seen in his funeral and coffin dream. Little Kelly is born and he decides to protect him and Adalind. He accepts the responsibility of fatherhood. Protecting them is his top priority but he is still grieving. From 5.08 Reptile Dysfunction:
Quote:Nick: What is this?At this point in the plot Nick still grieves for his Mother. It would seem that there is no Juliette for him to grieve. If there were a Juliette to grieve then Meisner would have shown Nick her grave. Juliette is now FrankenEve. Here is their little discussion in her HW cell:
Meisner: It's our graveyard. Chavez is here. The ones you were supposed to meet are here too.
Nick: So you cleaned it up.
Meisner: We had to.
Nick: Why bring me here?
Meisner: Three days after we took Juliette, we found where Kenneth had dumped your mother's body. We recovered it and what we took from your house and... and buried her here. Just in case you don't believe me. [He hands Nick a photo] We want your help. We need it for what's coming. [He walks away]
[Nick kneels down at his mother's grave]
Quote:Nick: Do you feel remorse for anything you've done? After learning all that happened Nick is asking JHF about remorse. Nick is not fooled by the cockamamie claim that Juliette is dead. He does not know who FrankenEve is but her existence precludes any "grieving" for Juliette/Hexenette.
Eve: You mean what she did.
Nick: What you did.
Eve: You still think you're talking to Juliette.
Nick: I don't know who I'm talking to.
Eve: Yes, you do. You just won't accept it.
Nick: Maybe I can't.
