The only way writers could go back to Wesen of the week is if Nick and Renard come to truce and Nick goes back to work with Hank. Final episode has Nick arrested for assault on Renard with Nick transferred to the North Precinct. Now there are a lot of North Precinct cops laying around dead at Nicks place.
I know that GRIMM writers make bodies conveniently disappear with no consequences, but even if absolutely nothing happens to Nick concerning all of that, he was still arrested for attacking his superior officer, assault or attempted murder.
So Nick cannot go back to duty without Renard dropping the charges and acquiesce in the deaths of about 20+ police officers. Renard could easily to make it impossible for him to go back to South Precinct.
That is why I think Nick and Renard come to some sort of deal in S6 E1. Either that or Nick spends S6 in jail or on the run or at least kicked off the Portland PD.
If Nick does not go back to Portland PD then Wesen of the week will most probably have to be out.
But the writers always seem to revert back to same theme. After 2 episodes of dealing with consequences of S5, I think Nick and Hank will be back in the South Precinct solving wesen problems.
1. Main story arc will be Nick confronting Renard's consolidation of power in Portland with Renard most likely getting a new powerful ally from outside Portland.
2. Renard dealing with family problems with Diana and Adalind.
3. Monroe and Rosalie having baby.
4. Nick getting Kelly back from Renard.
5. Eve reverting back to Juliette.
6. And of course the wesen of the week to fill out the 40 minutes.
I think S5 loose ends such as the wesen counsel, BC, even HW and all those police bodies will somehow be forgotten -- after all this is fantasy.
Things I hope come about:
1. Trubel remains in Portland and becomes regular helping Nick.
2. Juliette remains bad - she is much more interesting than good Juliette or Eve.
3. Things go well for Monroe and Rosalie's child.
4. Renard gets his comeuppance for killing Meisner (he helped deliver Renard's daughter for pete's sake). I want Nick to take that sword from Renard's hand and shove it where the sun does not shine, but I know that won't happen until the episode 13.
5. Nick gets Kelly back by end of E13.
