The two realities are tied to Nick going through that mirror, it was either the one reality or the other. A live Zerstörer who conquers the world or a dead Zerstörer. Nick didn't want to reverse time, he wanted to make alive all those who were dead using the staff in the same manner he used the stick previously, which was like healing the body and basically what he saw Zerstörer do with Trubel. The staff acted separately to undo Zerstörer's destruction independently of Nick except that he wanted his loved one alive.
Nick purposefully reversing time wouldn't be solving his problems by erasing six whole years, he'd be creating new ones. He's not erasing Kelly and Diana, he's effectively changing too many lives creating a massive butterfly effect that could cause even more chaos beyond his life.
He's not reversing time, therefore, there is no butterfly effect. He created an alternate reality. The reality where the friends are dead still exists. It has not been erased. He wanted his friend back, alive. He created another reality so they could be alive within it.

The staff fed off of his desire, and what he wanted was his family. It just found the most direct path to achieve that goal. And it wasn't really a new reality.
It is another reality. That's why Nick went back through the portal. The portal was the entrance to his new reality.
It's only a new reality in the sense that it's a do over. It's not another dimension like the Wesen nightmare world. It's a brief temporal loop. When he passed through the portal, he closed the loop. It still carries forward the Schrödinger's Cat analogy, because that timeline ceased to exist when Nick left it. It still happened though. Events that occurred in that future effect the new present. Zerstorer remains dead because the loop can't close unless he ceases to exist. In a metaphysical sense, everyone came through the portal. Diana never leapt herself, but remembers it all because of her unique gifts and because she's literally the same girl. Adalind's ring is gone because the magic was broken. She's the same Adalind, just inserted into an earlier version of herself. It's why Trubel suddenly finds herself outside of Monroe and Rosalee's house. (I do wonder if she was a little confused as to how she got there. It was a couple hours later when she showed up in the original timeline.) They notice no difference because they're not mentally equipped to. (Especially considering the fact that most of them were dead.)
The portal is an entrance to an alternate reality, one that Nick wanted. Adalind's ring is gone because Nick wished it to be gone in the new alternate reality. I assume if he wanted to go back to the other reality where his friends are dead he could do so. But that wouldn't make sense when he can just create another reality according to his wishes.

There is no evidence that the staff/stick could go back before he left the mirror. IMO Nick and Diana for a moment existed in a transition between the "The Other Place" and the Grimm world. IMO that is when the story took place and the staff would have removed the ring.
As we talked about before, real time travel is very dangerous and likely causes a lot more deaths. You are ok with many more people dying early to make sure someone was not born that you do not know is even a bad person.
It's not time travel. When we had this same debate in the other thread, I can't tell you how many people insisted Nick did not go back in time. I agree. He did not go back in time. He created an alternate reality. All I'm saying is he can create another reality where the children do not exist, and change things so they're not homicidal maniacs who love to go on hunts that end in killing.
The best way to frustrate a cyberbully is to ignore him.
