In the Grimm S1E1 the writers make their first mistake, like you said why kill Marie she is dieing, The mistake was at the time the were planning so a family Grimm had to die for the next Grimm family member to take over, then someone to late said wait we have Nick's mother returning in S1E22 so how could Marie be the cause. Sean wanted to take out Marie before (back to the mistake) she could teach Nick anything about keys and Grimms. Then Sean could become the Monroe and lead Nick into the Grimm world.
You are partially right when you say that the way grimm is written allow the viewer interpret the way the viewer wants.
The problem is that for the same reason all interpretations are at the same time right and wrong.
I have being debating things here in the forum for a while. My great complain about grimm is that it is so lazily written that all debates actually ends up with out a conclusion because you can came up with a huge number of possible theories. But you can find arguments and plot holes to destroy all of them.
It is not about the writers left open spaces to be completed by he viewer... It is about the writers simply didn't cared about write a consistent story.
Let's take Sean for example. He started the show as the royal in Portland. He was working for the royals in search for the keys. He sent Adelaind to kill Nick's aunt. Can someone explain why on earth would the smartest guy in the show order the kill of an almost dead woman? She died just a few hours after Adelaind tried to kill her. Wasn't smarter Sean wait Marie die Alone? Isn't it lazy writing?
It is just an example... Just some new questions about Sean...
Why was he working for the royals if the royals tried to kill him and his mother?
How did he know some of his family members if he and his mother runned away when he was a children?
How did he date another royal family if he is a bastard and as bastard no one likes him? (that is what the writers tell us in the show).
Why is Sean a bastard and Diana wasn't at the eyes of the king?
You can answer all of those questions. But to accept any answer, you will have to ignore a lot of questions the answer will not be able to close.
I know one argument is that it is impossible for a human to preview all the questions and to answer all of them. And that all shows, all books and all stories will have situations like that.
The problem with Grimm is that you don't have a main consistent plot line in which we can build our theories and test it.
The writers simply throw things in the show and spect our good will to accept it with no connection with the rest, like they are doing with Eve.
The problem is that they have done it beyond the acceptable limit, comparing with other shows for example.
It is just because of it that I agree with izzy on that.
The key Sean at this time is looking for a way back into the royal life or more likely to trade the key for an end for his mother and him being chased. If he had become the Monroe this plan might have worked. Have you noted that no matter what the royals alway have Etiquette And Manners. Like when Viktor showed up to get Diana Sean says welcome to Portland and Viktor says thanks for having me then says oh by to the way I'm going to have you/Adalind/ and your mother killed in the next 2 hours.
Like I said your points are correct but the writers started with an error in the first episode. They thought as you and @izzy point out we would correct for it. Unlike in your programing code errors don't fix them self you have to go line by line until you find the problem. I wrote basic and basica dos code because when I first got into computers was many problems you could by, game yes but a program not so much.
Just my 2 cents.
You know I always liked yours but because it is start for a thinking....
I just used Sean as an example... You added another one that is the fact Marie needed to die so Nick became a Grimm. There are others...
If the mistakes were only on the beginning, ok. I can live with the fact that in the first three episodes the writers are testing the the show ideas... I can live with fact that things will be adjusted in the following episodes. In another words... I can live with the fact the writers doesn't know where the show is going to in the first three episodes. The problem with Grimm writers is that I have the impression they already don't know what to do with the show now, in season five. For the comments in the forum, I think I am not the only one who thinks like that.
