Adalind was also very thankful to kelly and Miesner as well as Monroe and Rosalee for helping her. She also appeared slightly regretful about her past actions when talking to kelly about why kelly killed her mother. She was hardly the cold bitch of season 1 and season 2 at that point then Diana was kidnapped and that seemed to set her back slightly to the Adalind of old. I think if she hadn’t of been kidnapped we would have saw the Adalind of the last 2 episodes of season 4 until the series end much sooner.
This is a difficult question. As others already have pointed out, without Diana’s kidnapping most of the storyline would have been different. As it turned out, Diana was given an important role in relation to the “other place” and the stick. All of this was of course stuff the writers made up as they went alone. I doubt Diana was considered when the writers introduced the keys in season 1. (Short digression: everything related to the keys was handled badly. Why didn’t they at least throw in two extra keys in Felix’s chest, instead of letting the box with the stick open with only five keys?). But if everything that happened "in the end" was foreseen, as Monroe suggested, then without the kidnapping, Diana would somehow have to stay in Portland and probably be linked to Nick through Adalind and/or Renard.
This brings me to the second part: Adalind and Nadalind. Adalind began her change from evil to kind just before Diana was born. When Sebastien, Meisner and Kelly helped her escape from the royals and back to Portland (and Meisner helped her through birth in the cabin), she was grateful, and we saw a new side of her. The kidnapping gave a setback in that process. However, what she did was motivated by getting Diana back.
Adalind’s relationship with Nick reminded in a way about her interaction with Meisner, who also helped her in a difficult situation. The difference was that Adalind only came to Nick as a last desperate option. When he not only helped her, but began to show her care - despite their background, she was overwhelmed. That together with the fact that he was Kelly's father, was probably what made her fall in love with him. Why did Nick fall for Adalind? Probably because she was the mother of his child (and Adalind is hot).
Was it a long-term plan to make Nick and Adalind a couple? Probably not. We know that Claire Coffee’s real-life pregnancy triggered the Kelly- idea. Adalind was only meant to be in a few episodes. The writing was a dynamic process affected by the uncertainty surrounding the number of seasons and the keys prove they did not have any long-term plans. Did they start making plans before season 4? Unsure.
However, if you ignore all this and only consider the show, it’s easy to argue that Nadalind was intended from the start. (This is my attempt on fan fiction). In the first episode, when Nick saw Adalind outside the coffee shop, they seemed to be attracted to each other. He stared at her and she woged. If you combine that with Diana and the keys (/"other place") you can claim that without the kidnapping, an alternative storyline would have brought Nick and Adalind together anyway.
