If you think your series needs to be "shaken up," fine, but don't do that to the point where your audience becomes alienated from your characters, because you're just shooting yourself in the foot.
That had nothing to with it. All Supernatural shows saw a decline in ratings as time went on. I did A whole post on it. NBC can't even get their newer supernatural shows to bring in the same ratings as Grimm.
People simply got bored and moved on.
