I would have thought that, if the government was involved in Frederick's death, he would have died a lot sooner and in his own country. 

Regarding Meisner's relationship with Renard, aside from Adalind, who else would have known about it that would have enough power to put him in charge of an American faction? 

On the other hand, perhaps it was some kind of covert action authorized by someone in the government who was affiliated with BC and wanted Meisner dead. After all, he's stuck in Tillamook (per wiki), in a somewhat isolated place, with only a few people running things. It certainly would be easy enough to assassinate him when the time was right.

If BC had someone in the federal government who could rig that, why bother to try recruiting Renard into their ranks to make him mayor of Portland?

OTOH, if BC is really a rebranding of the Verrat and their scheme to cause worldwide chaos and use it to give the royals another shot at world domination with Viktor as the new Hitler, making a "deal" with an inept HW that gets rid of Freddie and relocates the resistance to some place where they'd be easier to kill off later might make sense.

Viktor becoming another Hitler and ruling the world would never happen. Unlike Hitler, Viktor is not charismatic. He's weak and doesn't even have a cause in which to begin his world domination. There was nothing in Grimm to even hint that at the very least, the seven royal houses had rallied behind him. Were the Verrat with him? If not, it's an even bigger insult to think that they, at least wouldn't align with him. Also, the royals have nothing to bring to the table that would sway world power in their favor. There's no oil, no gold, no heavy metals, they're not even strategically placed on the map. They have money to be sure, but if their past actions are of any consideration, that isn't going to last too long.

Finally, and I have said this time and time again. Neither HW or BC was going to ever win with this 'whatever they are trying to do' attitude. From day one, they should have been looking to the greatest resource of all, true humans, as the way to win their battle. Instead, they assumed the true humans would be a cowardly lot that would just fall over, faint hearted, at the sight of them. Now, the royals were humans who maybe aligned with BC, but that is speculation at best. Unless you know of a circumstance where all of the royal houses signed their allegiance over to BC.

Meisner would have made complete sense at the helm, IF, he was working with true humans to rout BC. After all, he is human and knows about this hidden world of wesen. But, you are right. Instead he remained hidden, other than fiddle faddling around with Eve or Nick, or reprimanding Renard when HE's the one who's about to die. Meisner's big fault was that he let his terrorist background doom him and it did.

Viktor, BC and the royals from previous seasons would all have about the same chance of ruling the world as today's real-life "topple the government" movements: none. They might have managed to take over a country or two, but the world is far too chaotic for anyone to ever trick their way to the top of the entire planet. And if someone did somehow manage to get a sizeable number of world governments to capitulate, there'd be resistance at the grass roots level that would make governance impossible. Because after winning a war comes nation building, and how often does that succeed? But that doesn't stop people from trying it anyway. So the futility of a fictional movement's delusional cause doesn't necessarily undermine its plot credibility. And I suppose its incompetence doesn't either, considering what we see happening all the time in the real world.

WRT to Verrat, do we know if there was one, single Verrat group that carried out the orders of whoever the families chose as their leader, or if each of the families had their own? My recollection is that they always referred to "the Verrat" as if it was a single group, but the families always seemed poised to stab each other in the back, so I have a hard time believing they wouldn't all have their own family-controlled thugs.

I think it would be more likely that each royal family had their own family controlled thugs. It may have come down to each family member having their own thugs. Kenneth seemed to have Verrat aligned to him, but they may have been different than those aligned to Frederick.

That what I figured, each family with its own group of verrat, and within each group, members who side with certain family members. Because the families plot against each other and within the families individuals plot against each other.
