Hello all, I caught a few episodes on TV about 2 weeks ago... first time watching and I fell in love with the series. Great Procedural drama. Burned through Season 1, and 1 disc in to season 2. I've got a lot of free time at the moment.
There is one thing I've got to say though... and it's something that would contribute to the realism of the series. It's actually highly illegal for a police officer to enter your home without a warrant. Unless they are witnessing a "Crime in Progress" they can't enter without first going to a judge and getting a warrant.
If you did it, "round about these parts" You'd be shot, and the shooter would likely only be charged with manslaughter and given probation.
Nick gets a pass from me when he goes into houses on Grimm business. But there is no way that Hank, Wu, or Nick would go into a house without a warrant if they were serious cops. However, it would make an interesting episode for Nick to be in serious trouble for entering a house without a warrant. (If this has already happened after Season 2 disc 1 please disregard).
Seriously though, HUGE violation of your civil rights for a police officer to enter your home without your prior knowledge and permission. Even if stuff is messy and looks like it may have been tossed around, they would have to circle the house and see if their were any signs of breaking & entry. Broken windows, open doors, stuff like that.
I also recognize that it serves the exigency of the story to not have to break the action to leave and get a warrant. But every time I see them go into a house without anyone there to give the permission, I feel my hackles go up (yes, I am saying the hair on the back of my neck goes up and I get defensive).
