Vampires are supposed to be evil, Evil, EVIL! Me, I'm on the side of the lycans. I have always loved wolves. Their family oriented! Run in packs! If I were going to be a monster, werewolf is my game!!

Big fan here. I first saw BtVS the movie (which Joss Whedon is said to have hated), and even though it was pretty hokey, I really liked it. When the TV series came on, it was because of the movie that I gave it a look and fell immediately under its spell. I got my two daughters interested and we had many years of watching the series and reruns together. We became very invested in Buffy and her gang! I have every season's DVD sets. When Angel became a spin-off, we followed and we all enjoyed that show also.
There was something really superior about the writing and the Buffy-speak that emerged over time. Maybe it was because I was new to the genre, but it seemed that the characters were especially interesting, distinctive and well defined. Plus, the stories were always absorbing and consistent with Buffy's world. It was like a golden age for Whedon and his talented writers to me. Do know there were a number of college courses offered on the subject of the BtVS show, so that has to mean something about the quality of the program. Thought Angel was just as well done.

With Willow and Fred being close seconds.

Actually, the vampires in Buffy are mostly evil, with approximately two real obvious exceptions (there might be a few lesser ones, especially if the comics are counted). Buffy/Angel 'verse vamps are literally soulless people-devouring demons. Funnily enough, the whole idea of attractive vampires actually predates film and most established tropes. Carmilla is a good example of an alluring but monstrous creature (who ultimately isn't sympathetic at all); the eponymous vampire in that novel also existed before Bram Stoker put Dracula's name down on paper. Varney the Vampire is probably one of the first true depictions of a sympathetic or ambiguously motivated vampire, and stories featuring him were written back in the mid-19th century. (I went through a 'vampire literature is the best literature' phase before this whole Twilight thing was even a gleam in S. Meyer's eye, so I could probably talk about this all day.) The 'awful vampires' versus 'sympathetic vampires' tends to be cyclic, so it might not be very long before we see supremely evil vamps again in fiction. In fact, the currently airing Penny Dreadful boasts some fantastically creepy examples of this. It used to be Buffy, but that changed over the seasons and in subsequent viewings. Now my favorites are Giles and Faith (and maybe some late-season Xander since he was less of a Nice Guy TM then). I also really dug Andrew as a side character. For Angel, it's probably Wesley, Fred, and Illyria. (Although it has been a lot longer since I've watched that show; probably should rewatch it at some point as I did miss a lot of episodes.) But I will always, always dislike Riley and Kennedy. Blurgh. "I can feed the caterpillar, I can whisper through the chrysalis, but what hatches follows its own nature and is beyond me."

Guess in the Buffy series I'd have to pick Spike. His was the most transformative of any series character I can remember and the one most well done. He went from being a completely purposely evil vampire to becoming very noble at the end. It took all seven seasons for this process to take place and it was so gradual that we fans could completely accept, and even celebrate, it. It was a great redemption story. But Spike never betrayed his essential identify, even as a good guy, think that's what really drew me to him. In the Angel series, I'll go with Angel, even though Cordelia runs a close second. I liked her sass. I was very enamored with him in both series, liked the broodiness because it gave him a tragic, almost Byronic appeal. I'm a sap for a hero-type. But that kind of character is hard to pick as a favorite because they usually are the foil off which other characters gain their popularity. It can become oppressive really quickly, but David pulled if off, imo. Didn't hurt that he was beautiful, I'm superficial that way. I'm not especially fond of vampires, but I like the werewolves of contemporary movies and literature. Anyone remember the one season that "Wolf Lake" ran on television? Always liked Lou Diamond Phillips and he was so good in the show. It was great, never will understand why it wasn't picked up for a second season, guess was a money thing. It's rerun on the Syfy channel every now and again and I try to catch it. I just hate zombies.

I used to love Buffy I thought seasons 1-4 where brilliant, but after that it went downhill when they brought Dawn in as Buffy's sister it just wasn't believable at all I definitely think it ended at the right time on season 7.

I'm a huge Buffy and Angel fan. My favorites characters are: Buffy, Xander, Spike, Cordelia, Giles, Oz, Gunn, Fred, Lorne, and a few other but I do not like Dawn.
Cangel, Caskett, Nickliette, Spuffy and Mulder/Scully
