I have a feeling the reason Nick and Adalind's relationship progressed as fast it has is because the writers think this may be the final season. This combined with the gang finding three keys at once when that shouldn't have been possible since Renard said the Royals had four separate from the two Nick already had leads me to believe that. I think if they were already guaranteed a season 6 there would have been more of slow burn. I think they have wanted a Nick/Adalind coupling for quite some time and figured now is the time to pull the trigger.
As for Adalind, I know she was still a schemer when she lost her powers the first time so people believe she was running a con this time around. However, there was a key difference. Adalind was rejected by Renard and her mother right after losing her powers so her whole world got shattered in an instant. She blamed Nick for this so she targeted Juliette to make Nick lose something he treasured. She felt like she had nothing to lose and everything to gain by working for the Royals and trying to get her powers back. I've seen plenty of posts stating how Juliette gave into her darker impulses because she felt like Nick and her friends didn't accept her which is an opinion I share. I can see a similar arc for Adalind this season but with a different ending.
This time around, Adalind has Kelly and Nick who she loves. She has something to lose this time so she'll be more resistant to giving in to her darker impulses. It really depends on how Nick reacts. If Nick accepts her, I don't think she'll go bad again. She also has Rosalee as a friend this time. Adalind knows that being her former self led to great heartache.
Adalind was a villain in season one but even then she had some loyalty. She had no intention of betraying Renard or her mother. We can see how much she didn't want to let them down. She wanted the love and approval of both and they used that to manipulate her. I'm not making excuses for her or justify what she did and giving her a pass if anyone gets that idea but I'm trying to understand her. I do the same for Juliette. Her fall was sudden but I understand where she was coming from especially when she found out Adalind was pregnant with Nick's child.
In addition, I'm trying to predict what the writers want to do. Last season, Nick lost his mother and almost killed Monroe after being betrayed by Juliette. I don't think think they would have Adalind betray him because it would be a repeat of last season. I know misery=drama but it can't be the only type of drama they can conjure up. Nick suffered great loss last season and is already dealing with BC so I think he will eventually accept Adalind after knowing what not to do since dealing with Juliette. That sucks for Juliette but what's done is done.
