I agree that Kelly usurped Venetian’s authority and changed the plan.
Kelly having carefully selected safe houses and contacts wouldn’t interfere with her keeping a low profile, if anything, they would be necessary assets. I would imagine up until she took Diana, Kelly used various Resistance safe houses.
Here’s what I don’t understand…
When they arrived, wasn’t Adalind upset that Kelly brought her & Diana to Portland? Did Adalind not tell Kelly enough for her to know that going any closer to Portland/Nick would be dangerous? Did Kelly not suspect the pilots might work for the Royals and would contact them, if they hadn’t already?
The only reason Viktor got a positive ID on Adalind was he suspected she had made her way back to Portland/Renard with the help of the Resistance; right? So if Kelly had the plane land fifty or so miles away from the original location, couldn’t she have stashed the two somewhere long enough to scout out the designated safe house and/or find another one? Better yet, Brazil is the fifth largest country in the world, that’s a lot of land mass. Couldn’t she have had the plane land as far away from the target location as possible, and stash them somewhere until they had time to regroup and put together a plan?
What sticks out most to me is that until a few years ago Kelly had never contacted Nick or needed his help. I can’t imagine that she’s been an operative confronted by last minute, chaotic, life & death situations for decades, and on this one occasion she doesn’t have any options other than taking them to Portland.
I know these scenarios aren’t feasible for the show because all the events that followed needed to happen for the planned storyline. But, the writers left Kelly looking rather inept and callous just so they could get their story with as little muss and fuss as possible.
