The revival tent case began with a murder, so Nick and Hank would have gone in with the standard detective's "everyone is a possible suspect" mindset in the first place. The fact that cameras were banned at the events and the aides were all ex-cons would only have reinforced the "they have something to hide" quality of the situation. Add the discovery that the preacher was a wesen using his woge to deceive people into believing he was being possessed by Satan, and by the time Nick and Hank went into the tent with Monroe and Rosalee, all four of them were expecting to discover that the entire thing was a sideshow scam.
