Quote:But I don’t see evidence that HW taught Juliette to block out what it means to be a Hexenbiest. They did not block what it means to be a Hexenbiest. What they taught her is to accept the things she can not change and to change the things she can.
To do this they gave her purpose other then self interest.
As Juliette she was consumed with her life, Nick, and her future. After HW her focus was on her life being all about protecting others. Her self interest was no longer her center focus. This makes it hard to have a relationship with others because you are not concerned with how you feel.
This is what a lot of drug and alcohol rehabilitation programs advocate. That is why they don't advise having relationship in the first year or so.
The idea is to get the addict out of their head. As and addict you are your own worse enemy. As a addict we dwell on the pass and use again to help us cope.
Now that eve does not dwell on the past she can move forward and learn to be constructive. She worries about other more then she worries about herself.
Quote:Blocking out any emotional connection to her past that impeded Juliette being molded into a valuable asset, yes. But I don’t see evidence that HW taught Juliette to block out what it means to be a Hexenbiest. The mental and physical prowess of the Hexenbiest made Juliette the super soldier/weapon HW needed. Meisner told Juliette in the flashback that she would learn to focus her anger. He didn’t suppress it as Nick and the others attempted to do, but rather, channeled it in a direction that benefited his cause. You are close to what happens in a rehabilitation process. One of the big problems is dwelling on the past is a powerful trigger to cause a relapse.
You are taught to make amends where it will not hurt others. You are also taught to not dwell on the past. The past is the past and can not be changed.
You are taught it is not about apologizing it is about making amends. That means doing something to show you have changed. Say while drunk you wrecked you parents car. Saying you are sorry would not help. Amends would be replace the car. That is what Eve was doing when she said HW should buy the new books to replace the ones lost. She was making amends when she save them at the factory. That is why Eve told Monroe he did not need to think her for saving them.
Monroe statement of Eve having a disconnect with her pass. Something a lot of people that have gone through rehabilitation do. People think that suffering the consequences or showing regret is justice for past acts. If you have been through rehabilitation you realize that is the worst way to handle your past. That leads to additional guilt and self loathing which leads to a relapse.
