Interesting thought. Not to pick on you, but I do want to ask, is it YOUR OPINION that this is the show's principle theme or is there somewhere the writers state it as such?
The reason I ask (I just discussed this with two other fans also) is the only evidence of that that I recall is the Monroe-Rosalee relationship. IMO, that wedding intolerance and then the racial purity episodes just sort of wrote themselves, it was low hanging fruit and I just see it as an easy storyline verses an foundational element of the show over the seasons. I totally differentiate them from Nick, because Nick did not know what a Grimm was, was not raised as a Grimm and is a cop, so he was trying to deal with this from a Badge's perspective. In other words Nick was not raised with an innate prejudice about wesen but Monroe is a walking billboard of of wesen based bigotry.
Look at how this constantly plays out with Monroe and Rosalee, they may accept each other but every time they encounter a wesen it is all about stereotypes, the classic them, these, and those. Frankly it is not too far removed from Archie Bunker. Apparently according to Monroe and Rosalee all wesen-X are A, C, and C. remember Monroe 's comments about a Fuchsbau (if you shake hands with one count your fingers to make sure you get them all back or something like that).
And then of course Renard's comments about what percentage of crime is wesen related...as in almost all of it. So clearly wesen are "criminals" not non-wesens.
I think we all read in what we want in a show. This actually is the only show I watch. Out side of this I have not watched television since Seinfeld went off the air. I watch this show as a distraction from the course reality of my daily life. If I thought this show was about acceptance and tolerance or diversity and that theme leaps out I would be an ex-fan. I get enough of that crap in my daily life with every group running around bitching about how unfair something is.
This may surprise you but a number of Badge's watch this show. In fact there is a LEO only Grimm fan forum. Why, because LEOs laugh at the violation of protocol, civil rights, search warrants; Grimm is the fantasy of a lot of LEOs. Where you can just deal with the bad guys and not let a lot of PC and civil rights crap get in the way.
But as I said I think are perspectives are different and we read into a show what we want.
Cheers...
