I suspect that anytime someone descended from the seven grimm families refered to "first" or "earliest" grimms they were referring to their own Eurocentric ancestry. People didn't exactly travel very far afield in Medieval times. So there may well have been people of non-European origin (Asia, Affrica, etc.) who had grimm powers, and some of their descendants may be around and unknown to what's left of the seven families (I was going to say "unknown to Nick," but that's a pretty low bar, isn't it?)
