If he wanted to know where the Resistance was keeping Diana, which is who Meisner told him had her, Renard would have paid insiders to ferret out Diana's location and take her. I too believe Renard loved his daughter and would have preferred having her with him, but rising in power was his main objective. BC combined backing Renard’s mayoral campaign with him creating a family image with Adalind and Diana. He wasn’t given the choice to run for mayor without the family image. I didn’t see any substantiation that his election required that family image, but BC kept insisting it did.
BC wasn't creating a family image so Renard could run. They were creating a family image to get control of Diana. Rachel suggested the family image before Renard committed, so I think they were hinging his run for mayor if he complied.
BC never really showed that much interest in Diania’s powers they simply wanted her as a prop for Renards campaign, the show has explained this as have the writers and actors . That’s why Boneparte was killed beacuse he underestimated Diania and her powers. BC’s main intrest in Diania was her being part of Renards happy little family, having control of her was a bonus but they really didn’t understand how powerful Diania was at the time. They had a Renard campaign poster made in 5x12 even before Diania was brought up in 5x13 so for you to jump to the definite opinion it was all about Diania is presumptuous to say the least.
