If Z/Kelly gives Nick the staff, Nick may be only able to save those who died that day but not in the original time line. If Nick does anything that depends on Z/Kelly existing due to the kidnapping IMO it will not stop baby Kelly from being kidnapped that day.
I'm one on those endangered species that doesn't read the spoilers, so although you may be right on the money with that speculation, it's a new enough concept for me to prevent my responding to the idea. Good news is we don't have long to wait!
G&K has created a list conflicting spoilers and hints so the only thing I do know is G&K are the kings of the red herring.
There is so little direct information about Z one cannot prove or disprove ideas.
