The Wizard of Oz - irukandji - 04-09-2016

This movie is on at least a few times a year, generally on TNT. Last night TCM had a salute to Judy Garland and showed The Wizard of Oz. I confess, I haven't watched it in its entirety in years so decided to forego Grimm to watch it.

I have to say without a doubt, this is one of the top entertaining and captivating movies of all time, in my opinion. Again, I was dazzled by all of the special effects, from the tornado to the Wicked Witch of the West, who is a special effect in and unto herself.

The tornado is my personal favorite effect. I've been caught in several during my lifetime. What is seen on screen is reality special effects at their finest because there was no CGI, just humans putting something on film that had never been seen before. It's pure ingenuity.

When I was a child, this was the ultimate fantasy movie, a kid going into another world and having a blast. Now I see so much more to the movie. It's a coming of age film. I once read a review from a critic who said the film is appealing to all ages, whether 9 or 90. Totally true.

At almost 80 years old, this film continues to stand the test of time. It's still as wonderful as the first time I saw it.
